Totnes is a unique town - no chain stores which have been kept out by the locals. It is thriving, whilst other high streets are dying ( no chains is the answer), plenty of restaurant choices, particularly if you are vegetarian/vegan. It's great.

Excellent
Perfect little town with many independent shops and few chains. Several decent pubs within easy walking distance and the main town bus stops are virtually adjacent to the Seven Stars. Railway station is a bit further away.

Very much a 'market town', what we saw which was not very much was typical of a middling district hub with a surprising number of people out and about on a cold November evening early in the week!
"Great staff, good service, great modern room. Comfortable bed, welcome drinks, reasonable food prices and good portions. Nice relaxed vibe in the bar & dining area."
"The hotel was on the sea front, rooms were spacious and the bathroom had a walk in shower. Breakfast was good and the evening meal was very tasty. The price was reasonable and I’d recommend this hotel"
"We really enjoyed our one night stay. We had a twin room overlooking the atrium, which we booked using Tesco Clubcard vouchers. Our room was spacious and clean, and we enjoyed making use of the gym and spa facilities, which were included. "
"I was a late arrival as it was a last minute trip for work.
Check in was swift and polite and when I explained I was covering last minute for a colleague he gave me a voucher for a free breakfast
Made me feel special and I really appreciated the service and gesture"
"Arrived and greeted by the most incredibly kind staff. They really couldnt have given us any more to make us feel welcome. Want to give a huge thanks to Robin on reception. My husband has a neck injury and the staff even offered to get pain medications from the local Pharmacist for us.
The food in 1881 resturant within the grand hotel was delicious and served by Felix. What a kind gentleman he was also. Even making my young boy happy by giving him free mocktails!
Both inside and outsoor pools area great addition to our stay, the breakfast is tasty and always left each morning with full bellies. We will definitely be coming back. We were so sad to leave today. Thank you all for a wonderful stay "
