This is a good alternative to save your life when all the hostel are all booked for the week-end in Manhattan, although you need to like walking a little,... because the train station is not so close (10-20 min). The train only takes 30 min to Penn station while it could take more than an hour from the Bronx, the Queens or Brooklyn. It is more expensive though.
