Lafayette Inn - Stanardsville

Our recent stay at the Lafayette Inn was a result of booking through hotels.com. Hotels.com correctly provided a picture of the building as a decrepit dump. I instead believed the web page of the Inn itself. A big mistake. The Inn is incredibly poorly maintained in terms of its exterior. The rooms have outside second floor access that is across a sloped […] plywood roof walkway. My wife thought this was 'creepy.' The room itself was fairly well furnished. But the windows were painted closed and there was no room control for heating and air conditioning. The maid came to the room everyday and did a good job on most aspects of maid service (change towels, clean dust, empty trash) but only pulled the coverlet over the unmade bed so that it looked made up even though it was not. I booked Lafayette Inn as a stopover between hiking the Central District and Southern District of Shenandoah National Park. I arrived and the key to my room was left for me, with a nice welcoming note. A bottle of champagne was left for us, along with some chocolates. The room was perfect and very comfortable and clean.
