Kamala Beach Resort a Sunprime Resort - ภูเก็ต

Our room was gorgeous, overlooking the pool and with great views of surrounding hills. Really nice and cozy bed. The bathroom could use an upgrade but was still nice. The Kamala town is great - much quiter than Patong. Beach was nice although could be nicer if more trash got picked up regularly. Hotel doesn't offer free wifi in rooms - have to go to […] lobby which is annoying. And hotel is on the beach but its a bit of a maze to walk through the property to get to the beach. You'd expect a beach resort to feature the beach a bit more prominently! Pools are awesome and the hotel food we had was pretty good. Alcoholic beverages are way overpriced - perhaps that explained why there was never a soul at the pool bar even though the resort was relatively busy everywhere else. It's a giant hotel so it involves lots of walking but it's right on the beach. Good value for the price. The staff is a bit overwhelmed by the hoards of guests, but are still friendly.

January 2013 - Beach was overcrowded with people with deck chairs lined on the beach like a 'cinema', less relaxing than less crowded beaches like Bintan Nirwana or Tioman. Location is right on the beach, but isolated from other beaches and activities. Room is huge, comfortable, except for air conditioner that blows directly to the bed. Grounds are nice. Stuff was not very courteous , almost rude. Christmas dinner/show was rip off, total waste of $120+tax pp. Overall, it was OK for money.

Enjoyed our stay. Was wonderful to stay at a child free resort. The only fault is the swim up pool bar at the beach pool is very neglected and not inviting to sit around. Also the young lady was a trainee and could not speak English so we stopped using the bar after our first day.

Huge resort with 4 pools. Right on beach. Quiet due to off season but had great weather. No rain in 5 days depite rainy season. Beautiful room on middle of 3 stories with verandah overlooking pool. Didn't have b/f included but plenty of cheap restaurants on beach. Hotel restaurant and drinks reasonably priced for a resort. Coctails 180 baht.

We loved it as there were NO children. A lot quieter than Patong. Great if you just wanted to relax.The room was clean,the bed huge and everything worked. Not fancy but clean and delicious food) The drinks around the pool were watered down and not at all like they were supposed to be. Our duty free came in handy. We were surprised 'smoking' was allowed in restaurant. Spoilt every mealtime for us & we had to play musical chairs at every meal to keep away from smokers. There were "NO SMOKING" signs but the smokers took no notice. Staff didn't reinforce this rule. Our best advice if staying for more than a couple of days, pay your account daily. We remembered everything we ate & drank each day but probably wouldn't have after our 8 day stay. Saves a lot of time when checking out. Would definitely go back there again. Had a great stay at an excellent hotel ... hard to fault at all. (picking straws, I could mention the restaurant staff needing a little extra training on ‘timing’ … a nearly cold meal being served one night when they were particularly busy, and on another evening, a main course being served when we’d just started the starters, but the food was excellent […] throughout, so doesn't really merit a mention) ... lovely staff, (including the restaurant), fabulous room, value for money unrivalled ANYWHERE in my experience. Kamala itself is a bit too dead to stay in full time, especially if partying's your thing, but it's close enough to Patong for a great night out there, whatever your taste. We felt it was better to do that rather than stay in Patong because our beach was perfect ... next to the hotel and quiet, whereas at Patong Beach, you’d have to cross a busy road wherever you stayed and NOT quiet ... bikes on the beach, hang-gliders dropping in 'unannounced', etc ... It was very clean and the no kids allowed was awesome! Rooms were nice. Great breakfast and cheap meals and cocktails. It was right on the beach too. THe swim up bar is definitely a hit!

Totally enjoyed our stay. Plenty of pools to choose from which meant pool areas were never over crowded. Restaurants provided a great variety of freshly cooked meals and super buffet breakfast. Enjoyed the Resorts courtesy bus trips into Patong. Overall, will be looking at returning in the future.

Our room was huge, very well done and with lots of nice touches e.g a big comfy sofa, good quality tv, our own balcony etc. Staff are very friendly and helpful and the restaurant and bar prices weren't half as bad as we thought they would be.

No attention to details. Hotel drop the ball several times on requests we made. Pools and beach area are nice, but spa is disapointing. We contacted hotel in advance to set up a day tour, and they suggested that we wait until our arrival. At arrival, the tour office was closed, and nothing could be booked, which resulted on us having to re-arrange […] plans not being able to go on a tour on the day we wanted. Also, we requested a taxi in advance to take us to a dinner reservation we had, when we came to lobby to get taxi, there was no taxi, and we were only pointed to a tuk-tuk. It was raining, we even had to walk to get to tuk-tuk. Not good. Finally, there is no real spa. The "prime-massage" is just a open area with several beds. The hotel is on the beach but do not control the beach area. Guest pay extra to use the beach chairs. The beach area is not well kept. The hotel staff english is poor it was hard to communicate. The separation of families with children was plus. The hotel should adopt a no smoking policy.

The Kamala Beach Resort is an excellent choice all round. It's not 5 start, but is generally excellent nonetheless. We had a garden room near 1 of the 2 pools near the beach. The room was very nicely presented when we walked in the door. The only downside was the the bathroom (while nice) could have done with a revamp. Initially there was a bad odour […] in the bathroom, but a automatically dispensing air freshener in the room helped dispel any odours. For most of our stay, we couldn't smell anything. The room could have done with a few more drawers or shelves within the wardrobe to put clothes. Other than this superbly comfortable bed and a quiet and peaceful room. The various pools at the resort are excellent and the policy around non-reserving of pool-side lounges and the use of freshly laundered pool towels was a nice touch. We only used the dining facilities once, but from what we could see, everything was very good. The dining room near the beach is lovely which usually included at least a guitarist singing lovely tunes. The lounge/library area behind this dining room, was an airconditioned and quiet haven for reading local newspapers or checking your email. The front reception is quite sparse, but adequate if waiting for transport and the staff are very helpful. From our trip to several other beaches, this is one of a few quality hotels right on the beach with access to local Thai eateries along the beach (nothing like dining with sand in your toes). My biggest issue with this hotel and it's rating is that i do not feel the room merited a 4 star rating. The location is excellent, and the grounds are great, but the room falls a little short. Taking that into account it may still be a good choice and a good value, but I may have chosen a different hotel had I known this in advance.

We were greeted with smiles and a drink and then it got better as they upgraded our room to a beautiful view of one of 4 pools. The beach took about 7 minutes to walk to but we chose to go further down the beach to the right to more open areas with less people. The hotel had great food but the buffet is not worth it. Eat out at the beach front restaurant […] where you can hear the ocean and eat great Thai food for $5 US per plate. There is a small town nearby that has a great spa, Oasis, that had a 2 for one 5 hour spa for just $130, for two! There are shops, a 7-Eleven, and several restaurants there as well. The Italian one, run by a Italian guy who had the best crust on his pizza that we ever tasted. The pools were great and they give new beach towels each day. The only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because they switched our room upon request to another room that was slightly cleaner than the unacceptably dirty room we were originally given. We did not know what to expect when we booked at the Kamala Beach Hotel. We were pleasantly surprised that the property had a nice beachfront and it was quiet. The main issues that we had was with the staff because it was rare to find someone who spoke english and understood what we needed.

We arrived on December 30 - obviously a very busy time of year. The staff simply could not cope. The front desk staff were pleasant, but did not offer the service or welcome you would normally expect in Thailand. The room looked very nice. There were different rooms I had a sliding glass door for entrance/ exit. My door looks out to the pool. The resort had many pools. My friends and I were in the area that had no kids. Which was great how they arranged that. The resort had its own spa, restaurant, and mini shop. Very friendly customer service. Would definitely recommend people to stay here. We stayed at this hotel in November 2011 and came away very impressed with no real complaints to mention. A definite recommendation from us! The hotel is split into two parts - 'Sunprime' which is adults (15+) only and 'Sunwing' which is for families. We booked in to the Sunprime via Expedia but when we arrived we were advised we had been transferred […] to the Sunwing sister hotel next door. Alarm bells rang initially, but we were provided with free breakfasts every day (we booked room only) as compensation, but we can't see what we were actually being compensated for as our rooms were excellent. Ok, we were in the family section which meant lot's of kids but we hardly heard or saw any of them really and they were all very well behaved. Each wing of the hotel has two restaurants - one for breakfast and more buffet style lunch dinner by the pool, and one down by the beach for a more formal dinner. The food at all we tried was excellent, especially the Thai dishes, but with a good range of western options too. There are more swimming pools then we were able to count, but we only used the smaller pool right outside our window which was usually deserted. There were more than enough sunbeds to go around. Great rooms, pools (yes many pools!), friendly staff, and just by the beach and markets. Also free wifi in the resort foyer. I spent just two nights here, but could have relaxed here for much longer. It is well tailored for families with young children, and even the elderly - so if you don't want to mix with any of these groups of people, then that would be its one disadvantage.
