Sommerset Suites Hotel - ซานดิเอโก

The room was huge and came with a private balcony within very close walking distance to some really great restaurants. It is a bit farther, but walkable to Balboa Park and the zoo. They made cookies in the lobby every afternoon which was a nice touch. This may have been the best hotel I've stayed at in this price range (for a large city).

Sommerset, is a dated but clean hotel, located right across the street from a hospital. If you like sirens, this is the place. You need to pay attention as you drive to it from the airport, keep in the LEFT lane, it is somewhat hidden behind a medical building. I pointed out the reservation with King on it, ended up with a queen room, not a suite, on street side across from the hospital. The only negative I have is the parking. The garage is very small and it was difficult getting our van in and out of the parking spots. Unless there was an empty parking spot next to us (which only happened the first night, then we had to maneuver the van carefully into a spot. The best thing about this place is the price and the location. It is walking distance from many different types of restaurants and CVS. The room had a few small stains on the carpet and they didn't leave anything for us to wash our dishes (they have a daily cleaning service, but we needed to wash our sons sippy cup). Staff were very helpful, especially Ian. The furnishings were comfortable but dated - but the price was economical to match. Garage was very convenient. I did not like the scent used in the lobby, however. Too sweet and cloying but that's a small point. Again, the staff were tops. Location was excellent.

Stayed here one night in Jan 2013. I had one of the suites. Fridge, cooker etc. all there although I didn't use them. Very spacious rooms. Clean and nice room. Friendly staff. Overall I was impressed.

The surrounding area has a vast amount of exciting restraunts to choose from. Also the property was well maintained also Rick the security guard was very helpful recommending all the hot spots in town. The only thing I didnt like is that pets are allowed other than that its perfect.

I really enjoyed this stay. I was looking for a decent place in a walking distance from Hillcrest and this was it! Our check in took no longer than 5 min, the staff was nice and polite, the parking is 7 bucks only and the breakfast was good for the room rate too. The room where we stayed was equipped with a kitchenette which had all kinds of appliances, […] plates, glasses, spoons and forks, even pots and pans, there was an ironing board and an iron in the closet, bathroom was large, the towels were not very clean though. The bed was comfortable and the linen was clean and soft. The location of this hotel is really unbeatable, it's close to all kinds of eating places, clubs, bars and a CVS farmacy. I would stay here again for sure. It was great. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was amazing. Restaurants and bars just around the corner. Nice hotel for a family with shopping just down the street to cook for yourself in the kitchen.

Good central location to travel around the San Diego area. Service at hotel was first rate. Lots of shops, restaurants & stores within walking distance. Beds a little to soft if you have a bad back. Only complaint was loud neighbors one night, but it was Halloween night.

This hotel was a good price for my budget and was clean, friendly staff and free continental breakfast. My only complaint was that they charge you $ per day to park your car at the hotel. It should have been included in the price of the room, in my opinion. When I booked the room online, it did not mention the parking charge and that they put a $ hold […] on your credit card for incidentals. Make sure you allow room in your budget for extra charges. Excellent place to stay and highly recommended. It is close to a lot of attractions as well as having the proximity to walk to restaurants/bars. It was like having a little apartment. I will definitely chose Sommerset again the next time I visit San Diego.

I stayed in Sommerset Suites in September 2012 with wife and daughter. * THE HOTEL itself was pretty nice. Not new inside but clean and comparatively roomy (felt like a small apartment rather than a regular California hotel room). The kitchen was well equipped (pans, utensils, mugs, plates, etc). We could hear neighbors upstairs really well (literally […] every step) but I guess this is a pretty standard hotel issue. However the A/C unit was quiet (!) and efficient. The balcony was useless due to a busy street it was facing. Also, the hotel is located right next to a large hospital (occasional sirens). * THE PARKING was really convenient. (Located right off the street in the same building). They charge $7/day parking fee but convenience is well worth it... The only downside it was a little too cozy (I wouldn't feel comfortable if I had to park a full-size SUV there). * THE BREAKFAST was a joke. Not a big deal if you are going to use the built-in kitchen in your room but don't expect anything good of their "free breakfast". Coffee and pancakes were the only hot items. Very low quality food overall. And one more note on the booking through Expedia. I booked a room with 1 king bed but got a room with 2 queen beds upon check-in. There were five of us staying in a one bedroom suite that had two queen beds and a sofa bed, plus kitchenette. The room was pleasantly clean and the price "okay" for San Diego. If I had to make any complaints it would be that the outside noise level from the room we were in was VERY loud! I had already read about that from other reviews, but since we […] only needed the room for one night, figured it wouldn't matter much. Well, it does when you'd like to open the sliding door to enjoy fresh air or go out on your balcony at night with a glass of wine and enjoy the night. Too much traffic noise and sirens (yes, you're surrounded by hospitals). My other complaint was that I chose to sleep on the sofa bed. It was probably the worst sofa bed I've EVER slept on in my life! As soon as I pulled the bed out and crawled onto it, my hands and knees felt every coil of the thin mattress! I tried to make it better by laying down one of the extra blankets on top of the fitted sheet, then placed the flat sheet on top of that to help, but it was pretty useless. Sometimes hotels NEED to replace those sofa bed mattresses no matter what the cost. It was awful! And one of the extra blankets looked like it had been in a dog fight it seemed so unclean. Very good location, good service from the staff, except the breakfast is terrible, bad coffe, poor food choices and the story of make your own waffle is a good gimmick but really not interesting in the morning when you need VERY GOOD COFFEE and good bread. The service at the cafeteria excellent.

We stayed at Sommerset Suites during Comic-con and we couldn't have been happier! Busses to the convention center were convenient albeit a little infrequent. The hotel was very nice and the staff was super friendly. One morning, we left at 2:30am to go camp out for a panel and George at the front desk made us some coffee while we were waiting for a […] cab. There are a ton of awesome restaraunta that are an easy walking distance from the hotel which is a welcome change from the madness of the gaslamp district. Bombay, D, and Chocolat were some of the best places that we ate and all were within a block of the hotel. I really can't understand why this place doesn't have a higher rating. Enjoyed the hotel. Not fancy but fairly clean. It is not quiet, however. You can hear a lot of sirens as there is a hospital across the street. Very very nice lady working in the breakfast room, "Martha". Overall pretty good place for the money.
