Nice hotel close to lots of resturants and shopping

An amazing trip! Coming back each day to The Churchhill from our excursions was relaxing and pleasant. Restaurants in the area are excellent. Our favorite was Sette Osteria on Connecticut Ave. The hotel restaurant is also good. A Belgian waffle in the morning was a treat.

We lucked out finding this place after being COMPLETELY turned off by our original reservation at the Baron Hotel (AVOID, AVOID, AVOID). I have NOTHING bad to say about it aside from the fact that our room was a bit warm despite turning the air down to 65 degrees. We stayed in a Jr. suite which was SUPER CUTE. The staff was very nice! Hi, The bed was really comfortable, and the room was clean. On the negative side, bathroom was cramped. Overall, service at the hotel was not business oriented. Just too slow for getting the car from valet, finding a computer to print from and organizing needs at the front desk. Could be fine for leisurely tourists but not a business hotel. The hotel is a nice old hotel, but it could use some renovations in the near future. The recent cold snap had made the use of the boilers necessary, but the air conditioner then just blew hot air when the weather turned warm the next day. They need to work on that system. But the hotel is quaint, clean, and inviting.

It was a comfortable, gracious hotel which we liked. Much more personality in our rooms, then say the Holiday Inn or Hiltons near us. The breakfasts were extra, and worth it before a day of walking DC. The Dupont Circle metro line is a short walk down a hill from the hotel and an easy connect to the rest to the system. My only negative is that you pay […] extra for WIFI and then it did not work in our room (ugh). They graciously returned the charge, but what I really wanted was the WIFI connection. Overall very good. We had to change rooms after the first night as the first was room was in front with street noise. The room was too warm and required us to keep the windows open.The staff was very understanding and accommodating. The only issue that seems to be common that we found with both rooms was the temperature control in the rooms. The air […] conditioning didn't seem to be working or was not available, maybe seasonal? Stayed at this hotel for two nights. The location at Dupont Circle was great but our room was not very clean including the shower, sheets and the pillows. The front desk staff were helpful so it was disappointing that attention was not given to cleaniness of our room.

This is an old hotel that looks old. The rooms are adequate for business purposes, particularly if you are attending a conference across the street at the Hilton and they are sold out. Because I was planning to be at the conference or participating in events related to the conference for almost all of my waking hours, all I needed was a comfortable […] bed and functioning bathroom, etc. Views were lousy or nonexistence (one window looked right at a brick wall, but I didn't stay here for that. Rooms look old and could use some updating, but were fine for my purposes. Room service was prompt, courteous and quite good, for the casual fare anyway. I did not try anything high end. The staff was very courteous and helpful. This hotel is well north of DuPont Circle, so be sure it is convenient to whatever you want to do in DC. Heating in hotel room appeared to be malfunctioning (too much heat!) but otherwise a satisfactory stay.

Lovely room and so close to a very nice part of the city . Excellent front desk service with all the amenities . Would have appreciated free Internet in the room but overall , I would love to stay here again if I come to Washington DC

The Churchill is in a great location. Close to the Metro and the neighborhood around the hotel has lots of shops and restaurants. I'd definitely stay there again.

A pretty building and a great location but I expected nicer. The room to which I was originally assigned (which was supposed to be a nonsmoking room) looked nice but reeked of smoke and I asked for a different room. The new room was rundown(loose bathroom floor tiles, carpet that did not properly adhere to floor, etc.) and far from nice. Even the linen […] was a big downgrade. Also, this is not a very quiet place- housekeeping activities in the hallway and noises from other rooms and were quite noticeable. loved it - very easy and comfortable. only thing i wish is that the air didn't blow hot even when i lowered the temperature.

It was difficult securing a taxi. The front desk staff was not attentive. Confidential paperwork was misplaced never recovered, etc.

I had several issues with my room. One was the heater did not shut off. I had to manually turn it off to control the heat. I filed a complaint at the front desk but apparently it was ignored. The second issue was a party in the room next to me. I called the desk at 120am and it took over 40 minutes to get them to quiet down.

The hotel is historic, and that is fine. The room service was rather disappointing. The soup was cold (and it should have been hot) and they forgot portions of my meal. The elevators are slow (is that because they are historic, or just have not been updated?) and the lighting is poor. The television is updated, but no option to watch a movie.

Biggest drawback was lack of desk in room -- not convenient for business travelers. Also not enough outlets for travelers with gadgets. (Not an uncommon problem with older buildings, but easily addressed by putting a surge bar in each room.) Otherwise room was clean with plenty of storage space. Service in restaurant was mediocre but food was fine. […] Exercise room was nicely equipped with treadmills, weights and elliptical machines - very clean and well lit. Paying extra for WiFi annoys me; it should be standard in any large hotel these days. Good location. Pretty good except the bathroom was not super clean (hear found on a towel) and pretty noisy people right next door past midnight. I had to call twice the front desk before they do anything.

The in-suite refrigerator literally is empty. For the price, you would think they'd at least give you water! And the walls are paper thin. I could clearly hear the telephone conversations, TV and radio of the guest an adjacent room. You can even hear your neighbor sliding hangars in the closet! Had to sleep with ear plugs. Restaurant service is poor. […] The menu is limited, and the one time I attempted to eat there after 45 minutes I still had not received the "medium" hamburger I ordered! The metro is a hike from the hotel, but at least there are plenty of dining options along the way. The hotel is dead after 11pm, but the Hilton across the street is lively and you can get a meal. Lovely boutique hotel with a chic lounge/bar area with the feel of a European hotel. Service was friendly and requests met with alacrity. We stayed for the inauguration and experienced thoughtful little touches like a manager's reception each night and a hand-out with details on how to get to the swearing-in ceremony. Very nice overall. Towels could be bigger/better and Internet access should be free. It is in most every hotel I have stayed in. There was an issue with hair on tables that was not cleaned up from the last guest.

The hotel was nice and comfortable but a bit far from the sights. It was close to resturants and shopping that made up for it. staff at check in were not overly friendly but they did their job well so cannot fault them other than that. We had a pleasant stay

From reading some of the other reviews I was a little skeptical, however, from the first minute we arrived I was pleasantly pleased. The staff and hotel appearance was great. The restaurant service and food was very good and reasonable prices. We were with two other couples and all three rooms were roomy and comfortable. I really enjoyed the proximity […] to Dupont Circle Metro station. We flew in from New Orleans to Reagan National and used the metro the entire stay, not once needing a car. This hotel was ok, good for 1 night, but I wouldn't care to say longer. While I was there, the restaurant was closed for renovations, there was no evening room service and they don't have s mini bar.

We really enjoyed staying here. It's an older hotel but close to our son's apartment so it was very convenient for us.

Walking distance to great bars and cafes and the metro, seems like a safe area, and large, very nice room and helpful staff. My only complaint was that the wifi was not only paid but paid per device, a policy that seems exceedingly stingy.

Overall a good location and good value for money. For some reasons, the entrance hall has really a persistent chemical smell that I find really off-putting. I used the same hotel 4 months ago, and the same smell was there - I actually won't go back just for this reason (I can't understand why they do not do anything about it).
