Very good location, walking distance to most places. Friendly staff. Clean. Rooms by the street quite noisy. Wireless internet did not work very well. Good breakfast.

Great location and very friendly and helpful staff. Some construction going on currently, not a big deal but I'd check the status of it before booking.

Good location, good service and relatively comfortable, not a bad choice if you can find a room at a decent price.

It is a well located hotel but avoid a room located on the street side. It's noisy! There's a police station near the hotel. I think it is a safe neighbourhood. My sister and I were able to visit and walk a lot around the area.

Very well located. Two metro stations close by (Santo Domingo and Plaza Espana). Walking distance to the Royal Palace, Cathedral, Mercado San Miguel and cafes and restaurants. It was great. The surrounding area seemed to get a little dodgy at night, but it didn't feel unsafe. Mixed in with the strip clubs and seedy bars is a police station.

This hotel has a great location. In a quiet street parallel to the Gran Via, main artery of Madrid. Walking distance to many of the points of interest of Madrid. Five minute walk to the Royal Palace and Almudena Cathedral. Five to 10 minute walk to Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor and about 15 to 20 minute walk to Museo del Prado. The front desk people were very helpful and willing to do anything you would ask them. The cleaning ladies were very nice too. Also, we could sleep just fine because there was no traffic or party noise around us (difficult thing to find in Madrid!) The only down side, I would say, is that the beds are a bit hard and some people smoke in the hotel even though it is a non-smoking hotel (that happens everywhere in Madrid though... and for people that don't like the smell it is very unpleasant) Breakfast at the hotel was good but a bit expensive. You can find more affordable choices walking distance. From cafes to fruit stores that sell almost everything. We spent 2 weeks in Spain. Mostly in Madrid and traveling to close cities such us Toledo, Sevilla, etc. using the train system. Overall, I would say we were very pleased with our stay at El Coloso. I booked a tour with Viator...the trip was operated by Julia's Travel. The Hotel was within 5 minutes walking to the travel agency. Made catching the tour easy.

The description of this hotel on hotels.com read that there was a/c in public areas (I assumed that meant no a/c in rooms). THe room I was in had a/c, and was very clean. Very convenient location for tourist activities. Room had a couple of maintenance issues (sconce globe missing, burned out bulb, problem w/ scalding water), but it was still a very nice room, much better than anticipated. Right in the middle of the town in a "quiet" side street. Madrid has noisy nights, we enjoyed walking the town from the hotel. Internet in the room was sometimes unreliable. We enjoyed our stay.

We were for one week at hotel El Coloso and were very satisfied:we had a big room,very clean,not noisi.Breakfast was very good and the staff very helpful.We had one problem:the fridge did not work. In italian I would say: c'era veramente piacere!

The location was very close to metro and the police station was next door to the hotel. The front desk staff was very informative and helped us make dinner reservations.

I loved my stay at El Coloso! I was actually in Madrid last summer and booked a room there blindly on hotels.com. When I returned this summer, I knew for sure I wanted to stay again. Friendly, helpful staff. Very nice, clean rooms. Great area of the city. Hope to be back again next year!

This hotel is in a good location on the east side of old Madrid. The staff was pleasant and helpful. They opened the breakfast buffet 15 minutes early to accommodate our early departure for the airport, which was their idea, and we appreciated. We did not find this hotel at all what we expected. It was tired and we were in the annex. Just not what you exoect from a 4 star hotel.

Hotel was clean and nicely located in Madrid close to Sol and Gran Via areas. Only complaint was the bed, not that comfortable. Staff was helpful and nice.

We found the El Coloso to be a great place to stay with clean beds, great location in the heart of the city and close to the Plaza Espana and San Domingo metro stops. It was in the center of all tourist sites we wanted to see and close to metro for those farther away.

The rooms aren't quite up to 4-star standards, but overall it is a nice hotel. The room was clean, just a bit old and small. Perfectly fine for staying 2 or 3 nights. It's also only a couple blocks from Plaza de España and the metro station there, so it's really easy to get around Madrid. This hotel is in an excellent location if you enjoy strip clubs. This is NOT a four star property. The photos are deceiving, the bed was a small step above a pull out couch. the good thing was the location, but it's not a 4 stars hotel (even if i had a mini bar in the room) i booked a double room and i got a twin one, with only one towel. the preasure of the shower was really bad. the smell in the batroom was disgusting and part of the ceiling was falling down. I'd rate this hotel as 2 stars (being generous)

Great location a block from the main browsing road and the major Plaza de Espania. It is on a narrow side street. Near the Hop On - Hop Off stop and within walking distance of many of the major sites. Large clean rooms. Helpful staff.

Hotel coloso is indeed colossal. The rooms are large, but somewhat dusty. That is the main drawback of this hotel, but no reason for not booking here. Wireless is at a charge but there is internet available in the lobby on two computers, thus for the average tourist that will do. Hotel staff is very friendly and helpful.

Excellent hotel and excellent value for Money. Hotel receptionists, despite their lack of English, were extremely helpful and pleasant. The hotel was fine for a weekend break . Right in the center of Madrid . Reception was good polite and efficient .Rooms are a good size , clean though they could do with a repaint and the curtains were a bit dirty. What let it down was the noisy street outside between 2 and 5 am . Try and got a room on the none street side .

Was automaticaly assigned a smoking room. Then had to make quite a protest in order to get a non smoking room - even then a double bed was not possible. Despite being a four star hotel we were still obliged to get dressed and go down to reception to pick up extra blankets (unfortunately no duvets in this hotel!) and extra pillows. Why weren't they […] in the room in first place? Also free internet was of really poor speed. But you can't ask for a better internet access because, well, it's free.... It's a nice enough hotel. Rooms by the street have balconies, but can be effected by the street noise. Skip the breakfast, there's plenty of places around.

The location is great...easy access to everything. The room is a little small, especially for two. The bathroom is nice. Bed was a bit stiff. Staff were very helpful. WiFi available in the room which is a plus!

The El Coloso was extremely clean and the staff was professional and gracious. The room was large and had air conditioning -- which is cruicial in the summer months! We had a nice, super clean, large bathroom, and completely enjoyed our stay!

A very conveniently located hotel, El Coloso (not that colossal, really) is a bang-for-the-buck hotel. It's off the main road, making it quite a quiet stay for us. The metro is about 5-10minutes walk away, and for security, 3 doors away is a Police station :-) If your rates don't include breakfast, you need not worry - there are quite a number of cafes […] nearby where you may get cheaper, and better fare. They've got a free internet station at the lobby, which was free of other users most of the time. The only thing I can really point as a negative (if push comes to shove) is the lift. Went to this hotel for the running of the bulls. It's a great hotel for the money. The staff is very knowledgeable about how to get around, speaks different languages, offers tips. The only real draw back was the distance from downtown, and how confusing the bus system was (we got lost a few times) Other than that I would stay again.

I was very satisfied with the hotel. It was close to the Metro stop and in walking distance to everything in central Madrid. The lobby is spacious and welcoming and they have free internet in the lobby for hotel guests. We booked 2 non smoking rooms and were given 2 smoking rooms. 1 of which smelt terrible of smoke this one was quickly chnaged for us to a choice of another smoking room or a non smoking room of our choice - we took the smokeing room as it was larger and this one didnt smell. They also recommened reasturants, shops and markets etc to go visit - service […] very good. Location was good 10 mins walk to main plaza's in the centre Breakfast didnt come on our price and was a whopping 16 pp for buffet - so we skipped this and went up to a cafe the hotel recommended up the road instead for a cheap brekkie for under 10 two negative points - we asked for an iron and they gave us one that didnt work with an ironing board cover that had a massive hole burnt in it and it was obviously way too small for the ironing board - cleaners took my face cloth from the bathroom (they didnt provide any in my room) and I mentioned this to the reception but never got it back. They have car park for 20 euros per night wouldnt recommend driving in Madrid without a GPS. The hotel was very nice and I liked that it was located in the center of Madrid where all the action is. The table was dirty when we arrived and I ended up cleaning it after 3 days because nobody did. Everything else was great! Overall, it was a good experience and the staff was very nice and friendly .

The hotel looks new but our room had a weird smell that we could not identify
