Renaissance Casa de Palmas - McAllen

Overall, it was a good experience. I was disappointed that I had to call the front desk twice to get housekeeping to clean my room. The breakfast and the waitors were exceptional. I would stay here again in the future.

I have stayed at this hotel many times in the last 12 years. It has a great location and is near the airport. A few years back it became a Marriott company. I am sorry to say each time I return I find that more corners are being "cut." Checking in this time became somewhat confrontational. I had to produce copies of my hotels.com emails showing a courtyard […] view and comp breakfasts for my wife and I. No longer does the hotel offer free bottled water and many other eminities have disappeared. On 2 occasions I had to call for clean towels and a bar of soap. All things considered it is still a great hotel, but many new hotels are being build in the are and I am sure on the next trip we will choose a different hotel. Sorry Marriott, you are slipping! Pros: some updated amenities such as flat screen tv, aveda products. Cons: almost too many to list. First of all, very disappointed with a supposedly one of the best hotels in town. Yes, it must be one of the oldest because it is. It looks like it, smells like it, and can feel it. Tiny room, tiny bathroom, sunken bed (got neck pain from it), humid […] and stuffy room, moldy smell, worn carpet, no door stopper (couldn't sleep from other guests slamming their doors), poor location (yes, in downtown central area if you're from Mexico; right by the Mexican mercados full of Mexicans - crazy traffic, congestion - if you want to get to anything American (such as restaurants) you got to drive 15+ minutes fighting traffic and roadwork everywhere), one-ramp parking garage (NO parking on ground level - you got to park 2nd or 3rd floor yet there is one way in, one way out - go figure), etc etc Their "policy" is to change linens every "third" day to conserve water - sure, if this was a 1 or 2 star. Concierge staff indifferent and apathetic - didn't say a word upon check-in or check-out, just a look. No receipt. Worst, what hotels.com need to know and note on reservation details is that they charge you $50 upon check in - "JUST IN CASE" you incur incidental charges. I was NEVER informed of this. I've called the hotel after seeing the charges on my credit card (better check your statement online!) and then they took it off. BEWARE! Very disappointing for a "historical" hotel of the town that is historical in a sense that it is dilapidated. Totally needs a complete renovation inside and out. Will not stay again. อ่านเพิ่มเติม

This is a historic property built in 1918. It was built as a hotel. The maintenance and upkeep are incredible. The pool is warm and a great place to relax. You can easily walk to 17th Street if you want nightlife. I'd stay there again.

Located in the heart of downtown McAllen Texas. It is close and convenient to all the action, still juat right where you can get away and relax. Great hotel staff, very accommodating! Shuttle bus will take you within a five mile radius of the hotel. This includes the Airport are car rentals if necessary. Very nice courtyard. The hotel itself has a very nice hacienda feel to it and it's located in a fairly convenient part of McAllen. The rooms are fairly small and the carpet seemed a bit old. As for the bathrooms, they were very poorly lit and my girlfriend found used sanitary napkin inserts under the sink. But the problem lies mainly with the hotel staff- they were very […] rude to us. The last evening of our stay at 2am, there was a very loud party next door to our room. People were talking and laughing very loudly right outside our shared balcony while the music in their room blasted through the walls. We had to call 4 times to the front desk and ask them to tell our rude neighbors to keep the noise down. Their response was "well, we told them to come in from the balcony... what else can we do?" Very Clean, excellent location...... I really liked the Hacienda style look of the hotel... I will probably stay again in this hotel...

This was definitely the most exceptional hotel experience I have had for quite some time. The hotel is beautiful, and I enjoyed seeing all the historical aspects of this national historic landmark. Yet my room was not only incredibly clean and neat, it featured all the modern amenities, such as an iPod player/alarm clock, internet connection, and two […] sinks with mirrors (one inside and one outside the bathroom - always a plus). The bedding was so soft and luxurious it was difficult to get up in the morning! Also the hotel features a surprisingly adequate fitness center - there were four treadmills and several other cardio machines, plus weights. This is so much better than the usual "one treadmill for the entire hotel"! I appreciated the fact that I did not have to wait in line for a treadmill. The pool is also beautiful if you're in the mood for a swim. In particular, I cannot emphasize enough how amazing the restaurant at this hotel is. The bar was fully stocked, and I had a surf and turf dinner that has to be one of the top ten best meals I've had in my entire life. Such delicate flavors! Additionally, the service was excellent and personal, and on top of all this, the meal was very reasonably priced. I highly recommend the dessert! If I had to criticize one thing about this lovely hotel (and this is really nit-picking because everything about my stay was great) it was the night staff at the front desk. I had never been to McAllen before, and I got lost trying to drive my rental car to the hotel from the airport. I called the hotel to ask for directions and the front desk representative with whom I spoke was very stand-offish and unwilling to help. I had to ask "can you give me a cross street?" although he couldn't give me the answer, and when I called back a second time, he seemed really angry when I asked him "Do you have a map or something so you can guide me from where I am?" The dining was way over priced but the shuttle driver made it easy to get to various surrounding dining establishments who had great food at great prices. This place was clean, quiet, and comfortable.

I rented a room at this hotel because I thought it would be a charming get away. Unfortunately, this hotel leaves much to be desired. The rooms are extremely small. I'm 5'10'' and when I raised my arm, I could touch the ceiling. Very uncomfortable. The room was so cramped that I hit my foot on a desk situated at the worst possible place a few times. […] The lighting in the room was less than stellar and the restaurant service was mediocre. My wife and I ordered and waited close to an hour before our food came. Everything at this hotel was expensive. I'm surprised they didn't charge us for water use. The walls are rather thin. We could hear a group of college students going on and on a few doors down. Not great when you're trying to get some sleep. The hotel is also located in a bad neighborhood and getting around is a bit of a chore. I found out later that there were some very nice hotels located next to the local mall that, not only had better service, but were in a much nicer neighborhood. My recommendation, try something else. This hotel is in old McAllen, which is not overly exciting. The hotel itself though is charming and has a lovely pool and patio. If you're staying in McAllen this is a great choice and moderately priced.

Staff is great. Ask for conditioner if you need it, never in rooms and Garden Room if you need your cell phone to work.

Went for a conference located in one of the ballrooms, the rooms were on the small side, but they were immacualte. The cleanliness and comfort of the room was by far the best I have seen in a while. The parking lot is a little scary, since it is a garage with only a single ramp with a mirror for entrance and exit and low ceilings, but we didn;t have […] any problems in a full size truck. The property was very beautiful and the room was extremely comfortable. The staff was nice, but I wouldn't go as far as to say friendly.

This is a great place to stay versus on the Expressway or near the Mall if you are not there to shop. It is very clean, comfortable, and the area is nice and quiet. I recommend this hotel to anyone visiting McAllen, Texas.

I wish I would have been able to stay longer. Although we only stayed one night, I was very pleased with the hotel. Very comfortable rooms. The hotel staff who checked us in gave us some misinformation, but nothing earth shattering. The woman who helped us in the morning was pleasant about answering my questions. I would stay here again.

buen hotel y sobre todo con los desayunos gratis en fin de semana, mucho mejor.

great service, very good quality. excellent restaurant and bar. better than most of the other options offered in mcallen.
