Downs: a room by the pool is noisy until it closes at 10 pm, but it does close on time! If you want internet in your room, it costs extra - but is still FREE in the main lobby. We traveled from FL to CA with a 2-yr old, and this hotel was fabulous! […] The food is expensive, but wonderful and in large portions. Get your Monterey Bay Aquarium tickets HERE, because for a 1-day ticket cost, you get 2-day passes. We found this hotel to be an excellent example of customer service. It was clean, comfortable, and would recommend this to everyone. Great location and easy access to many things.

Very nice hotel with a good service and good looking rooms. Small disappointment with breakfast (queue, had to ask several times for coffee, very busy). Also, our daughter forgot her favorite plush in the room, and even though we called several times to check if found, nobody called us back and staff didn't sound supportive.

Lobby, hotel grounds, service all good. Nice location. But will never stay here again - stayed in room 483. No soundproofing. People outside sounded like they were in our room. People in the hallway sounded like they were in our room. When I finally drifted off to sleep at 4am, I was awakened at 6am by a dog barking. (they are pet friendly). great place to stay convinience shopping and great food all around had a small issue with the shower towels the time we were there we were 4 persons and we kept getting 2 towels per day but overall it's a pretty good place to stay

This hotel was a pleasure to stay at because of the location at Heritage Harbor in Monterey and because the hotel provided us with a very nice room and excellent service.

The value that we received for this room was excellent. It is within walking distance to Fisherman's Wharf, Cannery Row and the Aquarium which is a big plus. The room was very comfortable, however, the only problem that I noticed was the sound of flushing toilets in the nearby rooms. In addition, the cell phone reception throughout the entire hotel […] is very sketchy, however, this is also a problem when you go outside of the hotel. Very clean hotel just it's out dated style. Furniture was old and bathroom was clean but wore out

Loved this hotel, especially the beds that were extremely comfy. Service was great, and the concierge even made a great recommendation for dinner away from the tourist traps (down on the Coast Guard Dock). We had a huge patio, which came in handy on our 3-day stay, and the wharf was close enough to walk. Coffee and fridge in room were a plus, and room […] service was fast and tasty. Only downside was the Valet seemed understaffed a couple mornings (around check-out time), and it took awhile longer to get the car. The hotel property is large and spread out, and we had to go outside to get to our block of rooms. This hotel was very clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. We will definetly be returning here on our next trip to Monterey! Would reccommend to anyone!

good location, polite staff. Gym was poorly equiped and to reach spa and hottup you had to cross the street. Otherwise nice place. We payed 150 a night for 2 queens.

A group of friends stayed at the Portola for two nights. It was a beautiful hotel, great location and the massages at the spa were to die for!

This was a great hotel. The staff was very friendly and the rooms were comfortable. It was a perfect hotel for my family!

Loved the convenience of the location and view but there were a few disappointments with this hotel. We were very disturbed by the constant loud toilet flushing that we could hear every 5-10 minutes. The hotel focuses on being green and eco-friendly. This included their toilets so they were extremely loud. We could hear literally everyone flushing […] their toilet from our room. Also you have to pay an additional $17 for parking and $9.99 for internet access each day. Just felt that they should have included it in their price. It felt like they were just nickle and diming you. The Lobby was cleaned with some type of cleaner that smelled very chemical-like every morning during our stay for a green focused hotel. The smell was overwhelming and it smelled somewhat toxic. The cleaning staff attempted to clean our room twice on check out day before check out. I should have known this was not going to be a pleasant stay when we checked in and the staff gave us the key to a room that was already occupied. They were kind enough to comp us our parking for their mistake but unfortunately that did not make up for the two nights of terrible sleep that were to follow. We stayed in room 389 which faces some of the […] shops across from the hotel. This was not a problem until around midnight when we could not sleep because of the LOUD music from a nearby bar and the noisy drunk folks that came walking through at all hours of the night. You could hear EVERYTHING that took place place in that walkway, including the shop owners dragging their trash cans around in the early hours of the morning. The hotel room itself was nice and had all the amenities one would expect in a nice hotel. But I would only recommend this hotel if you were staying on the opposite side of where we stayed, it wasn't a weekend and there wasn't a company convention going on at the hotel. Our overall trip at Portola Hotel was very nice. We were there during a warm-spell which was great - the kids enjoyed the pool. Location was convenient, hotel was clean, etc. One thing that perturbed me was when my kids wanted ice cream one evening on our way up to our room so we stopped at Jack's Restaurant to get some. The gal charged me $3 each for […] a tiny scoop (maybe 5 bites each). When I got to the room the guest book indicated that a scoop of ice cream at Jack's was $1.50 each. I let it go since we were on vacation and had spent a lot on money there already. Also, since it was a warm-spell and the rooms don't have air conditioning we found our room to be quite warm during the day and evening which required us to keep the window open when we were in the room since the ceiling fan didn't cut it. Hotel Portola is a very nice hotel with comfortable bed and down comforters. Easy walk to all the nearby attractions and restaurants. I would have given it a higher score but right outside our hotel room window was Pete's Bar. Since this is an outside bar, we heard hollering, laughter and loud noises till 2 am every night. Family friendly, convenient location, next to the fesherman's warf, downtown, aquarium. Good restaurant in-house and neighborhood. Big comfortable lobby. The pool was heated but it is a small children pool.

Away from the tourist crowds of Cannery Row, in walking distance to the wharf and downtown. This is a nice hotel with all the amenities. We will definitely stay here again.

We have stayed at the Portola several times, and as always our stay was great.

My husband and I got married last weekend and decided to spend the weekend in Monterey for our honeymoon. We had previously stayed at Portola Hotel & Spa and had a great experience. The rooms are very clean and the beds are extremely comfortable!! For our honeymoon, they gave us a free upgrade to a Harbor View room which was a very nice gift to wake […] up to the beautiful view of the Wharf. All of their emplotted are very nice and helpful! Inexpensive per night off season, lovely place to stay 1st class all the way. I wish I could afford it in season. But the weather was great anyway

That was an amazing vacation, the hotel was wonderful and outside of the hotel was relaxing it is definately a family hotel.

Everything was great about our stay except for the room temperature. Too hot at nigt and couldn't turn off the heat. Excellent location.

Room wasn't available when checking in. The left side of hotel was closed because of water problems. We were put in an other room until water was on and then had to move. When we finally got to our room it was as far away from lobby as possible even though the hotel was empty. The location was good, the employees were friendly, the hotel was clean, and they have a silver level LEED certification, but I wouldn't go back for a few reasons. The shower temperature was horribly unstable, going between way too cold to way too hot without changing anything. This was repeatable. Internet is not free, and I wasn't even clear if […] they have Wifi. I knew that going in, but I was hoping that would be the hotel's only flaw. We arrived about 9pm and I asked if we could park there after checkout the next day. The answer was yes, but only until 3pm. They were pleasant, but it didn't seem like the person had any authority to modify that policy. There were some girls giggling loudly near our room at 2am. I don't know if they were in their room and the walls are too thin, or what. This could happen at any hotel, but it added to the other issues. The adjacent brewpub had pretty poor beer. The Portola Hotel offered a very comfortable room with great access to local amenities. The hotel is so centrally located that I was able to walk everywhere I wanted to go.

I needed a relaxing getaway and found a haven at the Portola Hotel and Spa! Comfortable bed and room, quiet and clean. Excellent service and the perfect location within walking distance to the best Monterey has to offer. A very warm and welcoming hotel.

Our Room #279 had a tiny window overlooking the courtyard. The room was freezing when we checked in and the heater either had the room extremely hot or cold. It kept us awake all night going off and on. The front desk staff was indifferent. Bell Staff was very good however - very engaging and knowledgeable.

My wife and I had a great stay in Monterey and at the Portola Hotel and Spa. The staff were top notch and helpful. It was the first time we had traveled with our dog and the hotel was great about it. We would recomend it to our friends.

The food in their Jack Restaurant is excellent and the price is very reasonable for lunch and dinner.

Great location, close to everything, but it was very noisy to sleep as our room was very close to the busy intersection.

After having one of the worst weeks, in a couple of months, I needed to get away quickly. I couldn't have asked for a more relaxing and wonderful hotel.

We have 3 children. Although the hotel was beautiful the BEST thing about the hotel was the location. We parked our car and didn't need it again the entire stay. We walked to the Aquarium and took bike rides. We even rented a Surrey. We would definitely go back!

The hotel was beautiful, service was good, and location excellent. My only problem with the hotel was the added cost of things that should have been conplementary.......WIFI, parking $20 a day, computer access just to print my boarding passes was $9. I thought such an expensive high-end hotel would have had these complementary.

a great hotel but be forewarned about excessive noise if you stay in the rooms above or near peter b's tavern. there is also an indian restaurant nearby and we could hear the music playing from their courtyard. this went on until about 11pm on a weeknight. also, the people in the room next to ours came home at around 2am and proceeded to turn on music […] and engage in extremely loud chatter. we could hear every word from our bed. we ended up switching rooms for our 2nd night. we have two little kids who go to sleep at 7:30 so we definitely wanted a quiet room. the hotel was great about moving us and the new room was perfect. the staff was great and our kids loved the scavenger hunt that the hotel provided for them. อ่านเพิ่มเติม
