We really enjoyed being right on the beach ans so close to many good restaurants and shopping. A bit dated but very clean. Short drive to #1 Siesta Key beach at half the cost.

Loved the view and the room was really nice. The hotel is in a great spot, really enjoyed it!

A lovely get away, near our home, but as if we had traveled to another country. Loved the quiet, peaceful atmosphere. It was our 57th wedding anniversaryl

The restaurant has the best food, we ate there every day and night during our stay, great filet mignon. Kelly at the pool bar was a lot of fun. The beach was awesome. The gift shop had a nice variety of items. We also used the hotel shuttle which was complimentary to guests. Great location right on the beautiful beach. Rooms need updating, especially the bathrooms. Beds were comfortable and the room was clean, but sorely in need of a do-over. Restaurant was surprisingly good and so was the entertainment.

Cons: Hotel room was okay..dark and very humid(there was a humidifier in our room); but I would expect more for the price. Our second morning very very early the fire alarm went off for at least ten minutes. Very annoying. There was a mouse in the sink of the pool bar. Pros: There's two heated pools. The beach is nice. The staff could not have been nicer or more helpful. We had a room on the beach and the sights and sounds were wonderful.

For the price this was a really great place with a million dollar location. Located right next to ritz Carlton same beach tho... Breakfast buffet was good and price can't be beat We will be back. Close to st Armand's dining and shops too,

This is the oldest hotel on Lido. I choose it because of the rate and Lido beach. It was a very cozy laided back area to relax. Prices were very reasonable and not crowded. I would go back again.

This hotel was absolutely fabulous! It was situated right on the ocean, which was gorgeous. The hotel was in great condition, very clean and very well kept. The only downfall was that the shower was very small - but a small flaw for such a great price and location! Two very nice, large pools as well.

If your looking for a budget hotel on a great beach - look no further. The helmsley is a clean budget hotel - do not expect luxury. It is a great hotel for families being write on the beach. Free shuttle to Armaund circle is a bonus.

We stayed at this hotel at the last minute. I feel that the hotel is very overpriced for the conditions of the hotel, While I can appreciate it's a older hotel, it is really in rough shape. The rooms are very small, and you could hardly turn around in the bathroom. Our rug was really disgusting. Of course, what I believe you pay for is the beautiful […] beach. Chair lounges were available on the beach free of charge, and they had a staff person helping you with that. The food was good and reasonable in the hotel restaurant. convenient location, friendly staff, affordable meals, great shopping and restaurants about a mile away --- and the beach just a few steps away -- great affordable vacation location - we would go back in a heartbeat.

Room was fine and facing the gulf, however wife & I are over 66 a d the was no elevator. That was ruff on us for 3 days. If you wanted to sit on the beach it cost you for the chair & umbrella. Any activity out in the water & beach it cost you as well a microwave cost yo $10.00 per night.

The staff was very friendly and accomodating. The hotel is right on Lido beach with beautiful scenery everywhere. There is an outside mall within minutes of the hotel with a wide variety of shops and eateries. I highly recommend the Helmsley Sandcastle and will be returning myself.

Perfect location, just next to luxury Ritz Carlton, so value for money. Ok quite simple rooms snd average breakfast, but it is the outdoor area nice beach nice pool pool bar that makes it an overall nice place. Cleaning everyday nice and tidy. We got upgraded to face the pool area which was nice.

The hotel location was perfect. The rooms were clean and the restaurants were good value for the price. The pools were warm and clean. The beach was steps from your rooms. The staff was friendly and helpful. Nice town. Would go back again.

We did not know anything about the hotel until we arrived. It was one of the greatest vacation experiences we (wife and I) ever had. The staff was so kind and helpful you felt like you were at home, or even better than home. The pools and the fact that the beautiful beach was so close at hand made us feel like we were in a tropical paradise. The food […] in the restaurant was excellent and so convenient. Loved our stay at the Helmsley. Breathtaking sunset viewed from our room and balcony. Pristine beach had powder-fine white sand. We enjoyed the two lovely, heated outdoor pools as well as a game of shuffleboard.

Overall a good hotel however the front desk let them down On arrival they said the room that we had booked and already paid for was not available. When I queried this they said any room booked via an agency was not guaranteed to be that specific type only that a room is guaranteed. Hotel needs an extreme update! EXTREMELY too much Money for no ameneties. Would never spend the money to stay here.

The comfort and cleanliness of the hotel were fine. Kelly at the pool bar was very helpful and friendly. It wasn't obvious to us upon booking that this is an old style motel - it has individual entrances that are accessible from parking lots. Great beach, nice pool area on Lido Key. About a mile to shopping. Most of the clientele seem to be the geriatric set. The hotel is very clean and well kept up although the decor is dated. Staff is mostly friendly and accommodating.

We are seniors and we were told we would have a fourth floor. When we arrived they said that building was full. We were given a second floor in a different location and no elevator we had to walk up a long flight of concret stairs. Very hard on our legs. We were not pleased after being told that was all they had, and we had prepaid.

Very relaxing and nice place on the Beach. Pool is kept at perfect temperature and staff is very friendly. Witting walking distance to shopping and restaurants.

Location was awesome! Right on beautiful Lido beach. Less than 1 mile from classy Armand's Circle- which had lots of fun stores and nice resteraunts to choose from. Two large heated pools. Resteraunt on site that had good food at reasonable prices. Parking ramp that was free. Even gave us a guest pass for family to come stay the day. The walls were extremely thin. I was woken up several times in the middle of the night. I could actually hear someone in the room next to me throwing up in the bathroom. Not exactly what I want to hear when I'm trying to have a romantic evening with my boyfriend!

Its a reasonably priced hotel. A little outdated but what I expected in a beach community. It was clean and beachfront. Unfortunately we had a room near the parking structure, we heard car horns from people locking their cars all morning, needless to say we didn't sleep in very late. I was told I would possibly get a room on top floor with ocean view and when we arrived we were given a room at the end of the hotel on ground floor opening onto the beach. However, being at the end it was very dark and scary to walk to our room at night as the area is not lit up very well and for 2 women to walk from the front of the hotel to our room […] was scary. The door handle AT THE BACK OF THE ROOM TO THE BEACH ACCESS CAME OFF, TOLD ABOUT IT, BUT NOT TAKEN CARE OF. This property is right on the beach and is tucked into a quiet part of Lido Beach. The rooms, however, have been ignored with water stains, lousy bedding and a very work feel -- like an ignored Howard Johnson's. The check-in staff was rude and wore a dirty shirt. A bargain! This hotel has everything you want and more at very reasonable prices. The beachfront is gorgeous and the location is very convenient to St. Armands Circle and Longboat Ket, Siesta Ket and Ana Marie Island. We plan to come back every year!

Walking distance from St. Armands Circle and shops, the hotel itself isn't great, but pool is heated and area is very nice, the beach and surrounding area is beautiful. Not much area to bike on the island if you are interested in that. The staff are courteous and helpful too.

On a beautiful saturday in Januray, we were laying on th beach and since the wind was strong, we decided to "hide" behind a cabana from the hotel : now the beach was pretty much empty with only 3 hotel guest on it and ALL, yes ALL cabanas empty. The hotel staff came up and asked us to leave immediately from behind the cabana( a tent actually) I was […] so amazed by the ridicule of it, I could snot believe it .. Kind of an old Florida beach hotel- but that is part of its charm! Great WARM pool, the most perfect beach spot, good food and great service!
