I would recommend this hotel to others but make sure you ask for a room on the back of the hotel away from the elevator. Our rooms were on the front and it was very noisy. I left an expensive shirt on the bed in the room (white on white so missed it), and contacted the Housekeeping Manager, who was no help. Then I send an email to the General Manager, and received no reply at all. I expect much more from an expensive hotel.

We spent 3 nights in Miami before going heading to Cuba. Mayfair had great ratings online and the pictures looked good. Location was great - it is located near the water and in the middle of the best sights in Coconut Grove. We were there during the Coconut Grove Arts Festival and it was convenient and near the action. Our room was clean and comfortable if a little ordinary. I grew up in Miami but have lived away for twenty years. I wanted to avoid South Beach hotels and stay in a more central quieter location with easy access to the rest of Miami. We started our day walking to breakfast at Green Street Cafe (great food and service) then headed out from there. Since I grew up driving in Miami, it's easy for me to get around but the Hotel's location in Coconut Grove puts several must see places very close at hand. Vizcaya, Miracle Mile (shopping) and Merrick Park (shopping) are a stone's throw away. South Beach is depending on traffic 20-25 minutes away. The University of Miami is also close by. Great hotel with spacious rooms. No complaints except for that the valet service is far too expensive. At $26 per day, we park across the street at the Coco Walk garage for $12 a day and had no issues. The spa and amenities were excellent.

We book this hotel for our trip to the college football championship in Miami. We purposely chose NOT to stay in South Beach along with the other 50 thousand fans. On our a approach to the hotel and even when we pulled up to the main door I was a bit worried because from the outside the Mayfair looks very "plain". I might also note we drove in from […] the back side and did not get a good look at the surrounding area, so my first impression was underwhelming. But that first impression did not last long. The interior of the Mayfair is incredible! The is a huge center open air courtyard, with fountains, foliage, and areas to sit comfortably and enjoy the wonderful surroundings. On either side of the courtyard are atriums we equally comfortable surroundings. The rooftop pool and loung area is a perfect place to relax, swim, have a refeshment (or snack, meal), day or night. There is a fireplace for ambience and great views of the surrounding areas, including Biscayne Bay. Our room was spacious and clean (large bathroom with dual basin sink. The staff was friendly and attentive. The surrounding area has shops and restaurants well within walking distance, and the coco walk shopping area even has a theater if you want to catch a movie. This is a beautiful hotel. Housekeeping was subpar for the price point. The room was dusty and we had to call for wash clothes, which took an hour to receive. The maid also forgot to empty the trash when she cleaned the room. For such a beautiful establishment housekeeping was poor.

Very concerned about staying here after reading some of the reviews online. But we booked with another couple for New Year's Eve and had a wonderful time! We had the ENTIRE pool deck, fireplace and bar to ourselves, (even though we were told at the front desk the hotel was at capacity?). That was simply wonderful. Obviously, however, it was a little disconcerting that the entire place seemed deserted and the management/staff were clearly going through some sort of 'transition.' We joked that we had rented the whole place out for the evening. The room itself was fine, but much much too dark for my comfort level. I have to be able to see out of the window and I'm not sure that's possible the way the hotel is designed. Very rude staff. Had to ask at least twice to get anything done, and even then it was slow happening. They weren't pleasant or friendly in the least. On the contrary, they were snippy and rude. We asked about checking in 45 min early and were rudely told that we'd be called when our room was ready and not before. Then we watched a continuous stream […] of people check in. We made a couple of requests that didn't happen, despite being told they would. Room was clean and comfortable. Paid $30 for the Japanese tub. The man that set it up didn't speak much English. It got way too hot and couldn't get in. Called to get it turned down and got none. Didn't want to deal with the staff to try again. Also didn't feel like fighting with them the next morning after their rude, superior behavior at check-in and shortly after. Breakfast room service was cold. For $55 for 2 people, i expect it at least to be warm. Taste was ok, not good. Water pressure was horrible in the shower. I couldn't shave in it. We booked while Expedia had a flash 50% off sale and it still wasn't worth the money. Glad I happened to book during that sale at least. i would have paid full price. We spent part of our honeymoon here, so it definitely has sentimental meaning. But even with that, I wouldn't return. The hotel was beautiful. It had a great decor. Our suite was very large with modern and updated bathrooms, lounging, and sleeping areas. We did have to wait an extra hour before our room was ready at the stated check in time. They comped us by letting us use the jacuzzi tub free of charge.The big downfall was that there was construction going on down […] the street that our side of the hotel was on and we were unable to sleep past 7:30am without loud noise waking us up. Also, on the days there wasn't construction (weekend days), a leaf blower was going, also making it difficult to sleep in. At checkout, when I mentioned this, the receptionist said they would have tried to move us if we told them, but I hadn't thought that would be a possibility since they had sad they were completely booked the whole time we were there. The roof top deck was wonderful; very relaxing. The prices for drinks and food at the bar at the pool, at the restaurant inside the hotel, and for room service were high. We ate out for each meal at one of the surrounding restaurants in Coconut Grove where prices were more reasonable.
